Help!!! NM Unit 7 Elk

My dad and I were drawn for a unit 7 elk muzzleloader hunt, the problem is this was not a unit that we intended to put in for. I either screwed up or the Game Dept did but that it was we are stuck with. I need help from anyone who knows this area and were to start when we go to scout???

My dad had a Unit 7 tag a few years back. Cuba mesa is not a bad place
to start. and west of cuba mesa is a place called chamisa or something like that that we got into some bulls. cuba mesa is real brushy but if they are bugling it should be good. you will find elk in some real desert looking areas out their.
