help with a ruger?

what do you guys think?

this Ruger M77 .458 magnum is leaving me scratching my head #-o

do you think this is the "safari magnum", or the "77 RS" , or a project gun that someone took a regular model 77 and put a safari grade barrel on it?

Brian, was this one of the firearms you were selling for someone else in the classifieds?

I'm thinking someone restocked a Safari. The checkering doesn't look exactly like the Ruger pattern that I remember. The stock is obviously too long in the forearm. The wood looks like a better grade (more figure to the grain) than typical Rugers have. I am not however an expert on Rugers by any stretch of the imagination though.

this was the answer I received.
You do not have a RSM (ruger safari magnum), the RSM has a quarter rib on the barrel, yours doesn't. You don't have an RS either.

Your rifle is a Ruger M77RSC (c-stands for circassian walnut stock). This rifle was made between 1976-1978. The only difference between the RS and RSC is the stock. Based on the serial number you provided your gun was built in 1978. I won't give you a value on an open forum but pm me if you want more info.
