Henry Mountains Rifle Deer Tag

Well, all my years of bad luck have been redeemed. I was blessed enough to draw the Henry's rifle tag for this fall. I had 10 points, which means I got the random tag....LONG odds. Anyway, I live in So. ID and am a DIY hunter. I already have three scouting trips planned. This area is new to me, so I would appreciate any input or advice anyone has. I am so excited, I cannot even think straight from day to day....it is going to be a long summer. Anyway, any input is MUCH appreciated!!! newmaninidaho AT yahoo DOT com Thanks!

I had that tag back in 2010 and had a great time. Let me dig around in my files and pictures and I'll type something up when I'm not so tired.
After you arrive in the area of your hunt you will have to start your way up the mountain by going through the desert lowlands.
With some interesting features on the way.
As you work you way up the environment will start to show more signs life.
Until you hit the mountain and start the climb.
Slowly getting up the mountain to get set up for the night.
To be continued.
And make you way up to the high country.
Then find some places to glass.
Can you see him?
Now?
Off they go.
Move to the next area and keep glassing.
We then went back to camp to shade up just like the deer did through the heat of the day.
As the shadows grow so do the numbers of deer.
And some of the better deer start to stand out.
Move on to the next area and watch these deer till dark.
Really liked this guy.
Sadly our first scouting trip had to come to an end. :>/
On the bright side I would be back in a month for one more scouting trip before the hunts started.
Being mid August the summer thunder showers were hitting the area hot and heavy.
Oops.
Once up on the mountain a new problem arose.
It had rained so hard that some of the roads were just plain gone.
After checking out some leads that didn't pan out it was time to head back to camp.
Arrived to a pleasant surprise.
Where the heck were they when I had that tag three years earlier?
Head back out for the afternoon and glass up some of the same deer from the earlier posts to check on the final growth and then move to another lead and look around.
Found a nice management buck too.
And one last shot of the scouting season.
Up next the start of hunting seasons.
I won't go into all of the details but as we scouted around on the first day my friend found a buck that he wanted but wasn't able to get on him before sundown.
Out pounding the brush for a buck.
On the next day we got on his buck early and the sneak was on. After a warning shot he was able to connect and get his buck on the ground.
Got camp set up.
Head out for some scouting.
Snowline was making its way down the mountian with each storm.
Got up the next day after locating a herd of good bucks right at dark and headed back to pick them up again.
After playing cat and mouse through a couple of draws one of the nicer bucks slipped up and was caught out in the open.
He looks much more impressive when my friend is next to him.
One thing that you will notice is that most of the deer in all of these pictures is that they have guts on them from eating so well all summer. This one was so heavy the two of us had to use ropes and a lot of sweat to get him up in the wheeler.
And head back to camp.
A fun time was had by all and ever better I was slated to come back in another three weeks for my brothers bison hunt but that is a story for another time.
I hope that you have enjoyed my trip down memory lane and thanks for letting me ramble on and on.
