High country elk hunting in colorado

well by just looking at the colorado fish and game sight and google earth it looked to be pretty good but every one on 3 diff. sights said no on unit 65 and 71. Iam looking for some good elk iam not wanting a a flipen monster just wanting to arrow my first bull I dont want to shoot a cow or a littler bull but Iam wanting some pretty rough terrain as less roads as possible high altitude some thing you can hike into and wanting to get away from the crowds. any info on the whole stae of colorado would be absolutley AWESOME!

Idaho,
there's lots of units like that where an over the counter tag can put you into some good elk country.

IdahoGobbler,
Did you figure out where you wanted to hunt?

Here is a couple of links to other free mapping resources that may be useful.

Using UsaPhotoMaps, CO NDIS (Big game activity, private property lines, etc), topo and satellite photos

Statewide elk summer concentration and activity map (in PDF)

There are some pretty darned good OTC units to consider. Send me a PM if you are looking at one in particular.

I like this kind of post meat and potatoes hunting talk! I bought a lanndowner tag for unit 67 Have the private land of 9000 acres plus the national forest . The private land goes from 3500 ft up to timber line so I should be able to get on some elk . The landowner says it wont be a problem . To say I siked would be an understatement!
