Highest density of Mule deer

I am a hunter from North Carolina. i have hunted white tails and turkeys all of my life but never went after a Mule deer. me and some buddies are looking into planning a muley bowhunting trip for next year but i dont know where to start. For my first Mule deer hunt I would like to go somewhere there is a very high population of deer, it would be nice to kill a p&y buck but for my first hunt I would like to just make sure i saw alot of deer with plenty of oppertunities for a kill. Not looking for a guided hunt, just an are where we can try and do it on our own. any suggestions and hints as to where we should start with a high density of mule deer will be great. thanks

Well if your looking for the highest density, you can't count out Colorado. Have hunted here for 5 years and have never been dissapointed with the deer i have killed. You could apply for a unit up in Craig where they have mule deer on the roads and have to start killing them to move them away from public roads. Or Wyoming Central is a good place to start. Heard a lot of good stories from there. Good luck :222 :arrow

There are tons of deer in the Meeker/Craig area. Route 13 had a day and nighttime speed limit posted because it was dangerous to drive because of the deer. The archery tags are either sex which lets you have success even if you cannot kill a good buck. You can let a small one walk and still take home venison. Don't be fooled though, there are some very good bucks there if you are willing to hike. Bring good glass and learn to use it. Units 23,24 have lots of them.

Best bet is probably Colorado. A lot of good areas you can look at.

Northwest Colorado looks to be the king, but drawing a tag looks to be the hard part and like me, you are a nonres. Most of the units around Craig take a lot of points to draw!
