how do you deal with the heat?

it's been record highs here in oregon. we get a heat spell every year, but this one is dragging on!

one of the things you need to remember, other than drinking LOTS of water, is SALT! your body needs extra salt to replace what its losing.

SOOOOOOO, i make sure to have 1- 2 margarets with EXTRA salt on the rim each night.

i mean, you got to take care of yourself in this heat--- right??? lol

Gatorade G2 is the best drink I've found so far. I run alot and drink some before and after. When I'm riding I use a hydration vest or wet my shirt if it's a short ride. Evaporative cooling in other words. Won't work if it's really humid though. Shade is good too. You find out here where there are few trees that a light pole or saguaro cactus throws enough shadow to keep you much cooler.

We spend as much time at the river as possible! In fact, I just got back after bass fishing and swimming on the Snake. IMO that's the ONLY way to beat the heat!

I run 6-8 miles every day in this heat and do nothing different than make sure I am well hydrated. Nothing too fancy....just plain old water...and have no issues whatsoever.

One of the big issues here right now is who gets in the shower first. First one to shower gets all the cool water. After that you cook. I'm dreaming of being able to jump into the shower after a run and having cool water run over me!

It's not the heat that bothers me it's the gosh darned humidity. One thing that I do besides drinking lots of water is I always have a bandana with me and keep it wet and around my neck.

I've just been parking my big rump in front of the ac with minimal clothing and trying not to move.

Your post made me laugh. It reminded me of smuggling salt packets out of the mess hall in boot camp. No we didnt make margaritas in the back corner after they DI's went to sleep (they never sleep). We'd use them throughout the day to help keep ourselves hydrated. I dont know that it did much good, and it's funny to think back on, but it sounded good at the time.....
