How I sharpen Montecs

:thumb That is wicked sharp. I have a few Montecs that could use a little love.

Could you put a little something together on how you made the sharpener and where you got the little end piece. I would love to make me a little something like that.

Thanks, I have been using a piece of carbon, but have not been able to get them as sharp as you do with your tool. I agree with PhillyB, please show us how to make the sharpener, and where to get the parts.

The end piece is an old cermet (ceramic metallic insert) from a milling head. They wear out on the ends and are discarded at the machine shop I work at. The sides are still sharp. I milled a flat (you could grind or file one) on a pice of 1/4" round stock to match the contour of the insert and drilled and tapped it for a 6-32 screw to hold it in place. The cermet is much sharper and harder then carbide but will break easily if dropped. The handle is an old file handle. After the elk and deer seasons I'll make a video. This tool takes fletching off arrows nicely too.

I would have no Idea where to get cermet around here. Is this something most every machine shop would have? Would you use a normal grinder' or would you need something special? Good luck with Deer and elk,When do you go? I'll be going after the 9th of November. Let your wife know she did a pretty good job videoing.

Does that mean there might be a few extras laying around the shop you might be able to snag and send to a fellow Muley Madness member? :)
