11 for sure but looks like it could be 12 as there is one deer that looks to be next to another

Great Pic Hiker. When it first came up I told myself I'm going to pick a number before I scroll down and see everyones guesses. I had 11 for sure, but then thought there must be some heads behind sage brush or some trick out there. I was looking for 12, 13, 14 but couldn't find them for sure. I was ready to get out the binos and start looking for antler tips of the bedded monster thats in there somewhere. You all know the type I'm talking about. The kind that stays beedded behind some small patch of brush and lets you walk right by him.

Thanks for sharing.

I know exactly what you mean. These deer were on the move and passing through. We did see a couple of 24" bucks on this hill but I didn't snap any photos of them. I guess I was to busy glassing them and the camera didn't come to mind until after they were over the hill and out of sight.

Tikkaman,
lol for a guy who has trouble seeing, why is it that you see all of the game?

I guess I got the youngest eye! in the group of all the old timers! :)) Was that pic with the milk man? Cause my guess would be 17-18 Before he showed up!

No the milkman wasn't anywhere close, so the fawns stuck around the whole time. lol I was with Jessica.

Hiker, see 10 1/2 :)

Great picture. Is this in one of your hunting areas? How many bucks did you see? I am excited to get up top and do some scouting...... I think next week is going to be the start of my scouting season!

hoseman,
We hunted this Colorado area one year. My daughter and I had a antelope buck tag but a friend of mine had a deer tag for this area and his season started in a couple of weeks. We were scouting the bucks trying to find a shooter for him and we saw 4-5 decent bucks.
I see you are from Star Valley, I scouted the Cokeville, Kemmerer area a couple of years back for elk but decided to hunt with some friends over by LaBarge instead. I really like the G & H areas and would like to draw a buck tag there some year. My daughter applied for a buck tag over by Thermop but didn't draw this year. Once I burn my points on a limited area for deer, I want to scout G & H and start applying for a buck tag.

Cokeville is a good area I know a guy who shot a 30" buck in that are 3 years ago. I hunt behind the house in unit 144/145. I went on a 4 mile hike today and saw 13 deer and jump another. 10 were bucks.... nothing too big though ( i will post when I learn how to capture a still frame in imovie for Mac #-o . I would love to hunt in colorado someday. What does an out of state tag cost? Do you have to buy preference points?

NR deer tags cost 329 and a point will net $25 unless you purchased a tag the previous year, then it will only net cost you $3. The draw deadline is the first week of April. You have to front the whole tag and then DOW will send you back a check minus the point fee. here's a link to the Game and Fish, if you have anymore questions on Colorado and our draw system feel free to ask.
