how much growth now?

I was out scouting and found what i think is a good buck. He is already 25" wide, 4x4, and good eye guards. He was with two smaller bucks so he looked really big. In your experiences, how much growth should be on a buck and how much longer do they have to grow?

I always laugh at the "already width", to me already is the actual width. Make sense? If he is 25" wide now, he'll be a 25" buck. Sure he cure flare out a bit at top, or grow extra points but when the beams start to curl up then that's about how wide your buck is so to speak.

As for how long, some can still be growing right up until the archery hunt starts in some areas, heck some aren't even done growing when the hunt starts. For the most part by the end of July your about finished in my area. It may creep into mid-August but 90+ percent of the growth is done around the end of July in my area (Southern Utah).

I always like to do my best scouting at the beginning of August because for the most part what I see is what I'll get come bow season.

Hope that helped.

I agree with Brett. At this point you are not likely to see a deer put on much more than another inch of width assuming the antlers flare a bit at the top. From here on out you are looking for increased length and extras. In fact if you're not already seeing extras there probably won't be much in that regard. Most deer probably have 4 - 6 weeks of growth left, with most of them closer to four.
