Hunting Muleys in Oregon

Drew deer tags for the Whitehorse unit in Oregon for the 2014 hunt. I'm from the NE corner of the state and have never been down to the far SE corner in Whitehorse unit. Anyone have any suggestions as to where the best areas to scout are there? And what's the snake situation there? I'm reluctant to bring my Lab down while scouting.
