I broke my ankle on the Strip.........

After glassing some does and a small buck on day 5 I stepped down off a ledge carrying 2 packs and my rifle. I heard my ankle pop and I went down hard. I thought my hunt was over and I was going to come home empty handed. I was crushed I had 2 miles back to the truck and my buddy came over to help me back. On the way in, as it was about to get too dark, I spotted a buck on water. I got to 150 yards and dropped him. It was not the biggest I had seen, but it was litterally my last chance. My first mule deer!!!!! Some sort of divine intervention I guess.

Very nice buck. Goes to show, you never know when or where you're gunna find a buck. Make sure you rest that ankle buddy. I got two bad ones myself so I know you must feel. Bet that bruiser takes some of the pain away every time you look at him though. 10sign:

Man you gotta be happy to get the chance at a buck like that after having the accident. That turned from the worst to the best in a hurry. I watched a show one time where a group of guys flew over to Russia to hunt brown bears. One of the guys fell on the first day there and broke his leg. The guide put him on a bear that he knew of that was close and he got it. He was then flown out of there and his buddies all stayed and finished the hunt. I remember him being very happy about the kill and had a big old smile even though his leg was in a cast. Good for you my man! Like someone said earlier, It probably don't hurt as bad when you look at the great buck you shot! 10sign:

Sorry about the ankle but that is one beautiful buck.Big time Congrats. I wonder how many of us on here would trade a broken ankle for a chance to hunt on the strip. If my insurance would cover it I think I might go for it at least once.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm not cryin about it at all. I was so fortunate. I forgot to tell you that I had banged my rifle on the trailer hitch the day before and my hunting partner offered his .257 Weatherby Mag. He had brought it for me as a backup gun. Boy, don't let anyone tell you that this caliber is too small. Holy smoke do it do serious damage. One shot up the kazoo running away....dropped him. My ankle is doing better, swelling is down a bit. Here's what it looks like from my camera phone. I weigh 160 lbs and have the ankle of a 500 pounder. Kinda fat at the ankle. Thanks for all the kind words.
