I guess I'm just greedy..

So in my pocket I hold two late, late season (Jan 2 thru Jan 11) cow elk tags here in CO on a Ranching for Wildlife property. I stopped by the CDOW today to see if I could get an OTC Bull for 2nd season and was told that 1 of my cow tags is considered an "A List" license and the second tag that they offered and I bought is a "C List" license, this means that no I cannot get an OTC tag because even though every other limited antlerless license is considered a "B List" (which would allow me to buy a OTC Bull) the RFW depredation hunt (that is why they offer cows and not bulls in January) will not allow me to give the CDOW more of my money to chase an animal I've yet to catch. I probably sound greedy to those who only have one tag or even worse no tag but I was operating under the information that I would be able to hunt a bull early in the season. I just want to be able to enjoy elk camp and the anticipation of finding elk. Any one have an opinion on this? Should you be able to get an OTC tag if you have a Cow RFW late late season tag.

This is my second post and I hope I didn't ramble. Good luck this season.

well todd.... I dont mean to hijack your thread but.....

I am as guilty of this as anyone: "WHY DO YOU NEED A TAG TO ENJOY CAMP"

Just like last sunday, if I wouldnt have been able to pack my shotgun and hunt grouse, I would not have went looking for moose.

Take a camera, and your elk calls, heck, take a sling shot too.... Go enjoy elk camp! Have a fire, sleep under the stars! Get up early! Hike your arse off! Bugle! Locate! Be sneaky! Watch the wind! Zoom in! Steady now!!! "SHOOT"!!!!!! Frame that sucker and hang it on the wall.... HECK Shoot half a dozen if you want!!!!

Come to think of it.... I think I'll go look for some more moose on sunday!
thanks!

another point is that I do not know if both cow tags are for you or not but if they are it is very hard to eat 2 elk in 12 months!

Two tags aren't enough? With that logic, would 3 be enough?

You can't eat antlers anyways. Be grateful that you have 2 tags. Hopefully you'll be bale to fill both of them.

Good luck.

Don't get me wrong, I am super greatful not only for the two cow tags, I am greatful for the opportunity to hunt. I didn't grow up hunting, my father was a pragmatist and figured that we grew up in a city and didn't need to know about hunting. I just get wacky in the fall. I will be going to elk camp for a weekend to help a friend of a friend try to fill his tag but like a kid with Christmas I wanted to hunt sooner than January. In the six years I have hunted I have never harvested an elk so I will feel blessed and lucky to harvest any elk this season.
