I'm new!

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I was drawn for bull elk in Arizona in unit 1 from November 24-30. I'm so incredibly excited, it was my first time putting in for bull elk. I put in for a junior cow elk hunt two years ago, but I wasn't drawn.
Anywho, I was wondering if anyone's hunted this unit, and if so, what should I expect? I've got my neighbor, Geno, taking me for the hunt. No one in my family hunts, and Geno took me out dove hunting when I was nine, and I've been hooked ever since!
Any ideas on what I should expect?
Thanks,
Asher

Hey Asher,
First off, congrats on your good fortune drawing a bull elk tag! You'll love it! Elk hunting can be very addicting, especially elk hunting in the rut (September).
I'm not familiar with your unit, but in general, November rifle elk hunts are lots of glassing and stalking close enough to get in range.
Are you and your friend familiar with the unit, water holes etc? If not, become so. I realize unit 1 isn't right next-store to you guys, but as your hunt draws closer, plan a couple of weekend trips to get familiar with the area and locate elk. Meanwhile, practice your shooting, and try and learn as much as you can about elk patterns and behavior. If your neighbor has experience in hunting elk in the late hunts, I'm sure you can learn a lot from him.
Congratulations again!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the comments.
Geno's been up there a few times before I think. I'm not entirely sure though. We are gonna try to make it up there a few times, but I have serious money issues... I'm going to vet tech school, and my extern starts in the middle of September and lasts till Nocember 3rd... I don't get paid for my extern, and I'll have to cut down on hours right where I work at an emergency vet office, and gas to get to the White mountains and back costs about $150 for the truck. But there is NO way I'm missing my hunts (I was drawn for deer too), so I'll figure something out!

Congrats on the extern as well. I was a vet tech for quite a while (switched to the human side) You'll have some fun in it thats for sure - see some interesting stuff. Anyway- back to hunting. I understand on the tight budget thing, fuel isn't cheap anymore thats for sure,. . Try to make the most out of your trips when you do go up. Go get some Topo maps or forest service maps of your unit, learn all the roads and water tanks, that way when you do get to go up there you can utilize your time wisely, because you'll already have a feel for what leads where, and where the tanks are... Best of luck - on the VT and the Elk. Let us know how ya do, and fire more questions out there if ya've got them.
