Idaho - Some Muley Questions

Hey all,

I'm hoping to hunt deer for the first time this fall. I live in Boise, and figure I'll hunt unit 39. The Any Weapon season is Oct 10-31 this year. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on if I should try up in the mountains, or out on the sage flats or in the foothills? I haven't been able to find any info on what type of terrain the deer are in that time of year. I figure I'll be doing spot and stalk. Looks like the most fun to me. I'm really not looking for a monster buck but just something decent and legal for my first time out. If anybody wouldn't mind sharing hints on that unit, I'd love to hear them. Advise on Idaho Muley's in general would be great also!

I'm new to hunting, so there really isn't much I could offer in exchange for some help with the mulies. But, I am a falconer, and if you'd be interested in seeing what that's all about, I'd be happy to show you!

I have not hunted 39 but can tell you with some certainty there is a TON of hunters in there but MOST will be on or near the roads.

You should do best in the mountains. Get as far from the roads as possible and find a nice drainage with feed and cover and water and glass, glass and glass some more. Buy the best optics you can afford and use them more than you think you should.
