Idaho deer rut?

Coming out to central Idaho this fall for rifle season and I'm wondering when the rut is and does it affect the mulies like whitetails? Should I hunt the early part of the season before the elk hunters get in the woods or go the last week?

the rut generaly starts the latter part of Oct first part of Nov and yes the effect is the same even more so when it turns cold the seem to be out chasing all day for the most part, as far as beating the elk hunters out dont worry there are people in the hills year around hunting, shooting or just enjoying the outdoors
me personaly i would wait for the latest possible time to come out
where are you coming from?
i drew area 40 for the nov hunt its going to be awesome

it just depends last year i got my deer on nov 12 and the deer were ruttin hard. i think it depends on the weather if its gettin cold or not. but i agree its probably better to hunt the later part of the season.

I'll be coming from New Jersey[yea I hear the groanin] but Ive got kinfolk in 36. Will hunt along the salmon and up to the edge of 27 if the wolves left anything alive. All that nice flat country makes for easy hiking Ha!

I agree IdahoMuley but what i have noticed is when it is hot they are still rutting hard but they do it at night when it is cooler both whitetail and muleys react the same , belive it or not it has to do with the lunar crap and the amount of sunlight or lack of it that trigers the rut, the cold just makes it more obvious becuse the does are feeding all day
good luck Jersy hope you do well

Thanks for the info. I want to hunt when it's a little cooler with some snow but thats a roll of the dice out there. Well I have 3 more months of jogging 15 miles a week and shootin paper before I can come out to heaven. Maybe I'll catch up to that 4x4 that let me see him 3 times for 1/2 a second last year!
