Well, I don't know if it is true for the entire state, but my Weiser River B tag opens tomorrow. I am headed out this afternoon to Elk Camp. Man that feels good to say. I have been thinking so much about my upcoming deer hunt that I sort of forgot to think much about my elk hunt. I am excited to be away from town for a few days. I always look forward to this time of year and the great time I get to spend with my family and friends.
Good luck to all who are leaving or will be heading to the hills tomorrow!

GPW: GOOD LUCK!! Man, I wish ya the best and I hope ya have a blast.
We hunted in unit 22 for three days. There were 9 of us in camp on the night before the opener. We got 1 spike in the three days we were there. The guy who got the bull was the one with the bad knees who rode the quad to the top of the hill and took his lawn chair and sat in a draw. Elk walked right up to him at about 10:00 am on the opener. I busted my butt all three days and didn't even see an elk. There were evidently about 40 elk in the herd that he took the spike out of and he said he could have shot a bigger bull, but he wanted the delicious spike for the freezer. I don't blame him. Anyway, any elk is a good elk.
My dad saw 9 cow elk and my nephew spotted a couple bulls and some cows the evening that we were breaking camp and we weren't able to get on them. Easy pack out with the four wheeler.
[picture coming soon]
Note: This is not my preferred kind of hunting (with a quad), but we agreed to let him take it up because we had already seen two atv's go by on the logging road that we were hiking.
I am going to hunt unit 32A next weekend from Friday-Saturday. I will keep you posted.
More to come soon.
