IDAHO UNIT 78!???

does anyone have any past experience hunting unit 78 in idaho? Are fawn winter kill rates high? When is the best time to hunt that unit. Rifle Season is Oct 6-Oct 30 I think, is any week better then another? Are the bucks high, or do they head to utah? ANY information would be great! Thanks

Winter kill is at around 95% this year. Snow pack is at 145% of average. Low buck doe ratio. Genetics are not what they use to be. Could there still be one or two big bucks left. Yes, but good luck finding or harvesting them. This year is not going be very good for deer hunting. I have found serveral dead 160-190 class bucks dead from winter kill.

I know there are better units in idaho but the draw success on those units are under 20% if not in the single digits. I would rather draw a tag and have the chance to hunt then end up in an open unit hunting. Are there any private tracts of land in Unit 78 that hold deer? It looks beautiful over there (I live in Twin Falls) but I have never hunted that area. Are the deer hard to find? Any other units anyone would reccomend?

Lot of pine trees, my opinion but I like to hunt where I can see the deer. Not in thick forests good luck.

katorade!! I apperciate your input. If the snow comes during hunting season do the deer move down into sage flats towards Paris or Bear Lake?? Do you know any other units you would reccomend to a some rookie mule deer hunters?

What is the best way to get on deer if it is so thick? Can you walk the trees and push them out?
Looking at the map of 78 it appears alot of it national forest but that is the thick stuff you are talking about, is the rest of the area private ranchs etc?
