Info on California zone X-2

I will have 8 preference points for deer in California next year and I am considering applying for an X-2 tag. I would just like to know if this area is worth applying for with 8 points and public land being my preference. I just don't want to burn my preference points if the public land in this area is not to great. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
