Is $700 too much for a cow elk tag?

I saw a cow elk tag on ksl classifieds in Duchesne, UT (Not sure on the spelling) for $700.00 - It says the tag is good until January 31st. Considering I didn't get to hunt at all this year and it's killing me!!! I was thinking about getting it, but it seems like 700 bucks is quite a bit just for a cow elk tag that I would imagine you would be able to draw or buy over the counter any given year had I planned ahead (I dont know much about elk/elk tags and I know nothing about antlerless hunts/any info. along with that). So does anybody know? Does this seem over priced?

Might as well ask also, does anyone know about this tag Im talking about? Do you think i'll be stuck in a field if I do make the purchase or would I have some room to actually hunt a little bit? I e-mailed the seller but didnt get the question answered, I wrote back and am waiting on another reply so I'll find out eventually, just thought Id throw it out here too.

I've seen the add on KSL also. I would guess its a canned hunt.er kill. I dont think there would be much of a hunt. As for the meat? $2.50 a pound is kinda steep. Then cut and wrap. (???)

way to high for that and alot of duchesne is hayfields so if its just for there then thats what you'll be hunting. But if you can drive north from there aways theres quite a few elk scattered on tabby mt and such. Just be careful cause its near tribal land.

I wouldnt pay that much for a cow tag...
Im sure you can find someone around this area with a deperdation tag for this winter that woudld probably give the meat away. If I hear of any ill let you know.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I won't be doing it, haha. Pay extra money to "hunt" a hayfield. Thanks guys, Muleymadness saved my unlogical thinking again. I got in the zone and just wanted to go hunting regardless the cost or circumstances, haha.

There's no elk on Tabby Big Buck and there's enough people out there already. I've been thinking about not hunting it this year and buying a taco stand an setting it up out there for the deer and elk hunts. At least then i'd be making some money while not shooting anything...... lol

Oh, and I saw the same tag on KSL and yes it was just a depredation tag that someone was trying to make some money off of. Nothing quite like $700 worth of profit and not having to do a dang thing but put an ad on KSL.
