I've known for about a week now, but received my orders yesterday. I'll be reporting next month to CA then to SC, then on to the sandbox. I'll be missing hunting season, like I thought I would last year. This is supposed to be a short tour and should be back sometime after the first of the year.
Guess they figured out that after not sending me after training last summer, that I was due to go. By the time I get back I'll have about 6 or 7 months until I retire, then I'll never have to worry about this again.
I'll keep in touch on the board best I can. Not sure exactly where I'm going yet so don't know what kind of connectivity they'll have.
Gonna have to depend on my brother and dad to provide some venison for the wife. Of course, last time I was deployed over hunting season, my brother sent me pictures of someone else's elk and deer and tried to claim them as his own.
Gotta keep an eye on that guy, and my dad is worse. Easiest way to tell when my dad is lying while telling a hunting story is if his mouth is open and words are coming out.

Anyway, good luck with the deployment, keep us posted if ya can, and if I end up out there again with ya I'll be sure to look ya up!
AGC, I know what I'll be doing, just not where. If you end up going, give me a holler. Who knows, maybe we'll end up in the same place.
PaRu, gotta say you gave me a pretty good laugh. "Most" Sailors that do an IA over there aren't doing patrols and what not and are fairly safe. I will keep that in mind if I get into any situations, but last few years I've been hunting I don't recall the elk shooting back...lol.
ABert, Sorry I missed you the other day when you passed through town. Zatarain and I had a good time fishing, wish you had the time to have went with us.
If it's any consolation to ya my Nephew from Penn. is due back from the sandbox around 15 Oct. I'm taken him on a cow elk hunt as a welcome home gift.
Appreciate all the comments and I'll be flying out next weekend. Heck of a way to celebrate Mother's Day AND my birthday. Oh well, guess that's why I get paid the big bucks!
I'll be around on here for the next week, providing the wife lets me, then stopping in when I get the chance. Good luck to all this coming fall!
Only thing I know right now is it is a country that begins with an I and ends with a q. I'll find out exactly where once I get to Kuwait.
I still haven't found out if i will be heading over. I am still listed as in garrison, but that could change.
I'm a 6490 LDO, which means I deal with antiterrorism/force protection/ physical securit/law enforcement. I'll be filling a training billet over there, just don't know where yet nor exactly what I'll be doing.
killerbee,
I'll post an address here once I know. I know I'd appreciate it and I'm sure I'll hook up with other sportsmen who will appreciate it, too.
Hiker,
We'll meet up one of these days. Odds are when I retire I'll be moving back up to one of the mountain states. Kind of depends where the job wants me but me and the wife are really interested in some place between Ft Collins and Laramie.
Haven't settled into permanent quarters yet, but at least I'm not in a tent anymore. By permanent, I mean a trailer in which I share a room with someone else.
I can say I'll be working within a section of the Civilian Police Assistance Training Team. Just don't know which section yet. I'll be checking in when I can. Looking forward to seeing a bunch of photos from successful hunts in the coming months.
Hasn't really got hot here yet, but it is fairly warm. Saw some little birds the other day panting like dogs. Never seen that before so I guess that means summer is coming. The thermometer in the shade read 104 degrees yesterday, so it's not bad yet.
AGC, sent you a PM if you are headed over this way, maybe we can hook up if you'll be in my neck of the woods.
