It's on!

It's on. The elk are bugling in Grand Teton Natl. Park. :thumb A friend of mine was coming down from guiding some clients (Exum guide) and heard a bull give it his best for the first time this season. =D>

Opening day for bow is Aug. 31 st. I don't bow hunt, but, I'm going out with my neighbor and call for him.
I bought an OTC cow tag this year. Just moved to Idaho last winter from Wyoming. This is my first season here. My primary obligation is to fill the freezer. Cow season runs to the end of November. As you may be able to tell from my confusion over tracks, I have a lot to learn about hunting in the west.I'll be hunting alone. I don't want to take on more than I'll be able to handle on my own!

So, I wish you luck in finding the bull that fully fills your goals! :thumb Thanks for the good wishes.

Rut tends to peak around these parts toward the latter part of September, usually the 3rd week. Nothing like screamin, stinkin bulls in September...... :thumb Have a great hunt and I hope you're blessed in Idaho with a freezer of wapiti.

Thank you and I wish you the same. It is one of the true gifts of Mother Earth! :not-worthy

A friend of mine told me this morning that he has been hearing Bulls for about 2 weeks behind his house. He lives on Fall Creek Rd. right in the Bridger-Teton Natl. Forest.

I've been putting in a lot of time learning herd talk and bugling from a friend who has been hunting elk in Wyoming for 50 yrs. Can't wait to get out with neighbor.

Fall Creek Rd huh? Not too far from our place east of Tetonia. Man I wish I could hunt up there, just costs too much for an out of state tag since I live in SLC. I got a pic of a nice youg bull on my trail cam about a mile bhind our place a few weeks ago. I wish I was up there. Good luck this year, watch out for those grizzly bears.

I live right down the road from Tetonia!
Grizzlies :-k . I got bluff charged twice last Monday up by Green Mountain / Lakes area by a sub-adult male. :lame
I can't put down the cash for a Wyoming non-resident tag either. $600.00 is just too much. A buddy of mine did. He asked me to ride shotgun, or should I say bear swatter. I have a friend who is a life long local, has hunted both sides and swears that there are more elk in the Snake's and Salt's then in the Teton's. I trust him. He has been at it for 50 yrs. :thumb

Our neighbor was attacked by a Giz behind his house about a year and half ago. A winter killed moose in the woods behind his house brought the bear in and he was out calling for the dog one night and...he's ok now. They trapped the bear and killed it. I was at our place with my kids a few days after the attack and we didn't go too far from the house, freaked me out a little. I would love to move up there but wife doesn't think she could handle the long winters!

The key to winter here is activity. If you snowmobile, ski/snowboard, cross country ski, etc... it's easy. My girl, our dogs and I spend about 150 days a winter in the backcountry snowboarding.

I remember that attack. Sure glad he and the dog were O.K. It's too bad the bear had to die.

If you lived here full time you wouldn't have been so concerned about bears. It's pretty rare to have a negative encounter. Bears are like crossing the street in a big city. Even if the light is in your favor you still have to watch for cars!

That sure was a wake up call. I spend so much time trying not to get caught in avalanches I forget about the bears.
