It's time to apply and plan 2007 hunts....

Wyoming Elk draw is approaching fast. The applications are due 1/31/07 but this year Wyoming will let us apply online. Moose, Sheep & Goat will follow and be due on 2/28/07. Deer and Antelope has a deadline of 3/15/07.

I personally have mixed emotions with online credit card applications. It's simple and easy but the draw odds tend to suffer.

Utah's draw deadline last year was moved back until 2/17, does anyone know when the deadline will be in 2007?

So what is everyone thinking for 2007?

Not sure on the Utah deadline. Last year they did that so they could get a hunter's saftey class in before the deadline. I agree with you about the credit cards hurting your odds. Last year Arizona did paper apps only and I drew out for one of the hardest tags to draw (12B late) with no points. This year they did it online and had 30,000 more applicants.

I personally love the easiness of appyling online. But I'd got back to hard copy in a heart beat if the odds went way down.

Doubt they ever will though.

The Utah draw is going to be about the same time this year. They haven't put out the dates yet but it should follow the same time frame.

Anyone have suggestions on a good Wyoming elk unit I can draw for, that has decent bulls with lots of public land? As a NR I can't hunt wilderness areas. The draw is approaching fast---1/31. I have a few in mind but I'm open to suggestions. I have 1 PP, as points just started in WY last year for elk.

Well fellas, NM's deadlines are as follows::::
Feb 3rd : oryx, bear WMA permits population reduction hunts & turkey draw permits.
April 7th : Deadline to apply for public land deer permits, units 2a, 2b, 2c & 5a private land only deer permits, Elk, Pronghorn, Ibex, Javelina and Bighorn Sheep draw licenses.

That comes directly off the NMDGF 2007 proclimation.

Here's their web site if any ones interested:

wait - you guys got me all confused. something about your odds go down if you use a credit card to apply for your hunts??? Whats up with this, how could that affect it or did I just mis-understand something (probably the latter)

hond_hunter your personal odds are not hurt by you using a credit card. With credit cards you don't have to have any money up front, which makes it much easier for people to apply, becuase they don't have to pay until they get drawn.

Hiker, Do you have plans for applying for Montana tags?

Wayne, I'm going to wait and see if I draw my Wyoming elk tag before deciding. If I do draw it, No not this year. If I don't draw it, I think I'll try for a Montana tag, unless my wife or I draw our Utah LE or OIL tag but our odds are pretty bad for that.

Muley Madness, Thanks....I am very much looking forward to this hunt.

IDHunter, Wow! You could have some serious hunts if you draw some of these tags. Have you ever drew a Sheep tag?

For the past four years I've put in for 30-35 hunts each season and I've drawn two tags. The first was a below average muzzleloader elk hunt in New Mexico in 2004. The second was a rifle deer tag in Idaho last year that I drew during the second draw. I don't think I have to worry about drawing too many tags. In fact, I'd be thrilled with just one. Right now I'm trying to build bonus points so in the future I can go on one quality out of state hunt every year.

Last year I even applied for an antlerless elk hunt in Utah where there were 2 nonresident tags given, and three people applied for them. I ended up being the odd man out. I'm convinced that there's a secret to drawing tags that I haven't figured out yet. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.
