Javelina hunt

Here is my 2009 archery Javelina. Nothing funner to hunt with a bow. Even better with your wife and son by your side.

It was in Arizona. She got a shot at one that was running right across her path but missed. It was huge. She later had a perfect 20 yard broadside shot at an average one that she passed on because she thought it was too small. I told her the first one was just a monster and she felt bad she didnt shoot the smaller one.

She will tag one next year I am sure.

Congrats on your successful hunt. Send some of your luck this way if you can spare any. I got the same hunt coming up here pretty soon.

I'm heading out tomorrow for my Javelina Hunt. I drew a rifle tag, but I'm using my bow. Picking up the leftovers. I'm going to unit 16a. I hope to post a success picture later. I hope he is as big as yours or better [-o< lol

Congratulations! That looks like a pretty large one, too. Did you keep the skull? Arizona keeps state records for Javelina, both an archery book and an all-weapons book. The minimum for entry is 13 12/16 for archery, and 14 for the all-weapons book.

The boar I took this year was by far the largest, by skull size, I have ever taken (although I've taken at least one larger by weight). Although the drying period has another week or so to go, it currently looks like it will place in the top 50 Javelina in AZ's Bowhunting In Arizona record book. If you look at it on a Statewide basis, however, it would be #3 ever entered from the Northern 2/3 of the state (North of Casa Grande). Southern AZ consistently produces better scoring Javi's than the Northern areas, so mine is a real toad considering the part of the state in which it was taken. Although I've taken well over a dozen of them from the Northern half of the state, this is only the second one I ever took that would score above the minimum. It was taken from the same herd (I think) as the previous one two years ago, that also scored in the top 1/3 of all time too. I appear to have found a nice little pocket of decent genetics, or at least an underhunted herd where they can get a little older perhaps.

That is very cool. Hold on to your spot. There is nothing like a good secret honey hole that provides for you. How about some pictures of your pig?

How about you gutpylz? Did you get one?

Ya, I had 4 days to hunt and took the bow for 3 days, but told myself I would take the rifle on the last day. I'm ashamed of myself, but it was my first hunt for javelina. I had to take a crash course in hunting them since the first 3 days in Unit 16A didn't produce even a look at one. I hiked, and cut tracks, hiked, and cut tracks forever. I remember a place with a lot of sign when I was Archery hunting and went there and found them a mile away at the bottom of the canyon. I found a place that nobody hunts with about 13 in it. I'm going back next year if I get a tag and doing it with by Hoyt Alphamax. lol Enjoy, not trying to take over this thread.
PS He weighed 50 on the button(Yes I hiked him out whole) and was a Boar.

Very nice Bristle Pig. :not-worthy

I started my search for a Javi hunt after I got my tax return and it was too late. I will start earlier next year and hopefully bag one as nice as yours.

Most ranches quit hunting in March, so we are going to try for some hogs in Texas the first of May.
