Latest Catch

I don't git to fish much anymore. I did go while I was bear huntin' in Alaska in May and caught this keeper.
It's a little bigger than the bluegirls I'm used to catchin' and I think they taste a little better to. Easier to clean too with my eyesight now adays.

WOW. Nice fish! How much did it weigh? How long of a battle? And how does it taste? Thanks for sharing.

This one was very close to 100 pounds. The fight was about 15 minutes until my friend harpooned it and ended the battle. When you get the fish to the top, He uses a harpoon with a removable head. The head has a bouy attached to it. The fish usually dives after he hits it but comes up pretty quick after that and then the fish is gaffed and brought on board. I caught this one in 350 feet of water. We also caught a pile of prawns (2 - 48 quart coolers full of tails)and dungeoness crabs.
As far as eating..I think halibut could possibly be the best fish I have ever eaten. My problem is I like it breaded and deep fried which isn't very good for you. Here is a picture of my friend harpooning the fish.
and No fella's..that is not a bass spinnerbait in his mouth. We actually use strips of salmon about 10 inches long and 2 inches wide on the hula skirt with a huge circle hook.

Hey Buckmaster. I wouldnt want the fish to spoil in the mail. You could always come over for a fish fry.
I have about 25 pounds of fillets left and 10 pounds of shrimp tails.

I heard that halibut swim just like regular fish when they are younger but when the get older and bigger the only way they can catch food is to lie on the bottom of the ocean and ambush their prey, Thats why their eye moves on to the same side as the other so they can catch food better, is this accurate. Just woundering.

Very nice catch. Congrats. Very tasty too. My dad worked up there sinking a mine shaft about 15 years ago. He'd work 3 weeks on and one off. Every time he came home he'd bring a couple of ice chests full of salmon and halibut fillets. Best fish I ever ate was that halibut.

So Tom, where is Stillwater from Fairview? I have family that lives there.
