latest scouting trip

This post is more about thanking 4 good hearted guys that really made my weekend. Last night about 2 hours before dark I was racing up the mnt. on my atv and was about 6 miles from my truck and about 1 mile from were I was going to start looking for a nice 4 point I saw a few weeks ago. I breifly lost control in a big rut in the road and slid into a sharp pointed rock and boy did I hit it hard, which instantly gave me a bad feeling. I stopped and turned the bike off and could hear the horrific sound of hissing air coming out of the side wall. With no pump or patch kit, I hurried and turned around, heading back towards the truck. About a mile back towards the truck I came up across 4 guys on atvs. I asked them if they had a pump or could give me a ride back down to my truck, so I could drive up to my atv. They had a pump and a patch plug kit and fixed the tire right there. I told them I would hurry down and get my wallet to pay them but they said, no way. Just go and have fun while it's still light. What a bunch of good hearted fellas. We need more people like them around to help each other out when needed. Well, I did find that 4 point again but he has not grown much in the last 2 weeks. He's about a 24" 155 class buck, real nice and symetric. After dark I headed back down to Salt Lake to find a Wallmart to buy a pump and patch kit. I got back up on the mnt. about 2:30 and hit the sack. BTW, I had planned on spending the night up there anyway before all this happened. My alarm went off at 4:30 and I knew I needed one more hour of sleep. I finally arose about first light and was on my way to check out a new area. About a mile down the road there was 3 nice bucks in a meadow, which I would have missed seeing if I had left camp before dark, as planned. I then glassed a good looking snow slide and hit the mother load. A real nice buck pasture of about 20 mature bucks in a one sq. mile area. Now I need to figure out how to get to them. I was looking at them from about a mile away, across a huge deep canyon. to be continued.....

Sounds like you better put on a overnight pack. Great time. Worry about packing your buck after you get him. :-k
