Lets see your big game animal your after!!

Okay hunts are almost upon us, with one states Archery just started.

I want to see the animal your chasing whether it's Elk, Deer, Antelope etc. And if you have a PICTURE lets see it.

Here is my dilemma, I have really wanted to take a buck with a BOW for the last couple of years and have yet to do it or kill anything but jackrabbits with my bow.

It's pretty tough considering I have very few days to hunt Archery and don't hunt on Sunday either. I'm not making excuses, just reality.

I found this buck a couple of days ago. And figured I'd be happy with him if I could take him with my bow or something similar.

Here he is...

The problem is a day or so later I found a bigger one, that got me really excited. So here comes the debate/question. If given the chance at the smaller one do I pass hoping to take the big boy?

Or take the shot and get some bow experience, especially to prepare me for my LE tag I'll draw next year. lol

I have a dedicated hunter tag, so if I might be able to get the big boy with Muzzleloader or Rifle if he sticks around. (???)

What would you do? I think I've made up my mind after some thought.

Here is the big boy.

+1 It's all about the hunt and the experience. I think if you hold out for the bigger buck the experience you gain from it will pay off in great stories and more knowledge gained! Good luck!!!

Yeah! Go for the big guy.

Im biased, but i would use your bow there is nothing like taking a mulie at close range with a bow. the smaller deer isnt that much smaller , but they would both be a prize taken with a bow!
nice bucks!

ok , after going back and looking at the bucks again the second deer is alot bigger than i originally thought. tough choice. I know for me bow hunting good shots on nice bucks dont come around very often so i tend to take what i can.

Brett nothing wrong with either of those bucks. My first bow kill was a spike when I was 16 years old. Al though I wouldn't shoot a spike now, I still feel that any buck harvested with a bow is a trophy. Especially your first. A four point for your first bow kill would be awesome. I have to admit that the second buck gets the blood pumping. If you have him patterned good and feel like you'd be able to hunt him without alot of other hunting pressure I might hold out for him. If your competing with a lot of other archers in the same canyon I think I'd make a stalk on either of the bucks you've post. However it turns out it will be awesome. Good luck to you. 12 days to go.

Here is a cleaner image of the big boy.

Well yea it didn't take much thought, I'm going after the big boy for sure if he sticks around. [-o<

Hard choice. I'd probably hunt the big boy, and if later on you get a shot at the other one take it, both are good bucks. As far as my pics go I didn't even see a buck in my area last week when I was in there. :-k I haven't found a bull I like yet either I better get on the ball.

big one all the way.. i think you have a chance at finding more bucks like the smaller one. however if that buck stood 10 yards broad id be tempted! but i say if you think you have a chance at the big one hold out you have 3 seasons to hunt you can prob find another buck of the caliber of the smaller one later in the season.may not be with your bow. o well.

im kinda faced with a dilema myself i have 2 165-175+ bucks spotted in a little hideaway i would really like to go after, one is an inline 28''+ 5x5 and the other 25'' ish 4x4 id glady take either one! my dilema tho is i have my archry LE elk tag to fill also!! so do i try for the bucks opening day or go after big bulls? there is a possibility of elk being in the same area ...i seen some kinda older tracks in there but didnt see any elk when i found these bucks.. the deer hunt gets more pressure im not sure how many people drop down into theis little hideaway during the hunt. ive never hunted it just kinda discovered it with those bucks in it. i know areas near by get lots of pressure. so do i try for the deer opening morning or go for elk and risk someone else finding these deer or possibly bumping them? im thinkin if i dont go after the deer right away they may nit stay there...so im leanin toward the deer as i have no true monster bulls in sight as of now.if i find a giant bull between now and the hunt there will be no question what i will go after. but that 5x5 is a dandy general season buck he could possibly push 180 i am thinkin lower 170's tho he was a long way away and i didnt get closer casue i didnt want to disturb them. any suggestions

I'd go after the big one too Brett. Good Luck!

Ox - I'd go after the deer, seeing as you already know where they are and you havent located any bulls yet. Who knows, you may just get lucky and bump into a monster bull while deer hunting. Good Luck to you as well!

How many points did you burn for the LE elk tag? If it was any more thatn a couple I'd be going after the elk. If your one of those lucky SOB's that got an elk tag on your first try then a 28" 5x5 is worth an opening morning attempt. Heck if you don't have a specific bull you're after why not give the big buck your efforts on opening day. If they have moved then you still have several days of light pressure elk hunting on your LE area. Either way good luck and I'm looking forward to all the stories.

Thanks for sharing! It is amazing how even the smaller one will seem very big in that velvet at archery range. I think you would be happy with either one at the end of the day, but teh latter certainly is nicer. I would post pics, but I have not had much scouting this year. the better one I have seen is similar to your smaller one. Good luck!

both are nice bucks . With a bow shoot the first good shot you get at either one. I've had too much tag soup waiting on the big one and passing the sure thing. Good luck and enjoy the meal.

Hey guys and gals, This is my first post on this site. Thought I would chime in and show you all my first pick. I hope to find something bigger in the next two weeks, but if not, I will have no problems with this one. I think he is a buck that was hanging out with the buck I shot last year, but he was only a 3X4. Now you can see he is a 4X with that kicker on his g4. I would put him somewhere between 175" to 185" gross, what do you guys think? You cant tell from the picture, but he is just past the ears and should spread out at at about 25 inside. I am tapped out on pictures, so I will post a new post with last years pictures so you can give me your input on if he is the same buck.

Looks like a great buck to me, great 1st post. 10sign:

If this is the same buck, then his left side grew a lot, and his g4s are not quite as long. He is at most 2 miles as the crow flies from where I arrowed the buck he is pictured with. I was going to shoot whichever one gave me the first shot, and luckily, I got the one I did as this guy grew a bit. So anyone think he is the same buck?

Remember the big four point we have on video for the last two years and I blew out my ankle looking for it two years ago. Well, he seems to disappear after opening day. I finally made it up there this weekend( in the storm) and no injuries to report this time. :)) Anyway we did find the big four as we call him this morning, with 1" cheater this year. He was with a cool buck with down turned main beams and about a 6" cheater and a 160" class typical with them. They went into some timber that was too hard to make a stock on, so there will have to be another day.

Great bucks both of them, I would take the shot on the first one that gave me a chance to get the arrow knocked and drawn back, but I don't think I would remember either step if I was that close to iether one! ](*,)
