this is my buddies archery elk he shot off the panguitch lake unit last september... grosses 360 nets 350 55 inch mains with a 49 inch outside spread. his left brow was 22 inches. he shot it about 1 1/2 miles off of any trail or road it took about 3 trips for each of us to pack it out . over and under more deadfall trees than you can picture in your head and numerous lave rock beds we had to go over carry 100lbs+ on our back
he shot it 40 yards and it ran about another 60 before going down. we could not even get our arms around its neck the body was huge! had to be 900+ lbs it was the size of a horse. i dont know how they do it but those elk can sure get around some nasty areas! i know i would have had trouble getting horses through it. a couple nights before he shot this bull, we were calling and there were six bulls around us bugling and two that sounded like dinosaurs i belive this was one that sounded like a dinosaur haha the other was the herd bull who had a harem of 30+ cows we had him at 80 yards that nigght buta cow walked right into the path of the wind and smelled us out they were gone that quick! it was to late to try to get around and pursue them. i think this bull was bigger than the herd bull anyway i just dont think he was the meanest bull on the mountain he did not look like he had been fighting or anything. no broken tines nothing and as willow horned as he is there should have been some broken ones had he been fighting.

My lifelong friend and my mother with their bulls from opening day of 2006. I could have shot a spike out of the same herd that morning but chose not to with two bulls on the ground and needing to be packed out. Three sounded like torture. He'll grow up and maybe I'll get him next year!
