Little lesson learned

Just though I would share a learning experiance from this last week.
I am hunting elk, but this involves deer. It was late in the morning and I was headed back to the truck, running late of course (promised to be back to the house at a certain time). Anyhow, I had been hunting around some safflowers and CRP fields (highest cover was about 10"), had my bow over my shoulder, sleaves rolled up and I was moving out. I look up and see a few does out in the safflowers, pauseing just enough to make sure thats all they were (and wishing they were elk) when I look right in front of me in the road, there crosses 6 more deer at about 200 yards. Now it is past 9:00 in the morning and I was in the middle of the road, no cover, just standing still. Well, a couple of the bucks are real dandys, so I admire them and hate that they will be boogered by me when I pass and they wind me. Just for kicks I see just how close I can get, so when everyones head is down I just walk towards them. I am able to just WALK, not sneak or crawl, within fifty yards! I get careless and one sees me and the gig is up, but I'm sure that if I had been more carefull I could have gotten closer.
Anyhow, leason learned-deer (and elk) don't "see" someone standing (or sitting) they "see" movement that scares them.

Nope, no deer tag. And wouldn't you know it thats about all I have seen so far this season. #-o Just last Saturday I jumped a couple of real nice bucks, had a 170" buck not 40 yards from me, just had to enjoy the moment.
