long range connections

I made my longest shot, and connected this year at 506yds with myy 300wsm.My first elk, a nice respectable 4by5 in the all lovely alberta rockys jus wonderin whats your farthest shot with a connection. The only reason i attempted this shot was cause of alot of down range practice which paid off!!!!!! :222

Is was far enough that i held 3 elk body widths over the top of a spike with my 8mm RemMag,that was a LONG way.

great shot!! true, shots at this range take practice, it is not just the gun. I shoot the same caliber and made a similar connection on a cow hunt last year. the 300wsm with a 130gr barnes triple shock knocked her down at just over 500yards

My longest shot that conected? 500 measured yards. Did it with a 6.5x06 fireing a 140gr Sierra Match King at a measured 2875 fps. The path of the bullet is plotted on a piece of card I had with me and showed 36.2" of drop at 500yds. The scope is a 4.5-14 Nikon with target turrets and the shot required 28.9 up clicks which left me less than 1/8" low at 500 yds. 5 shot's went into a measured 1 3/4". The life of a piece of paper is much to valuable to lob bullet's at! :thumb

320 yards.

As a highpower/long range competitor I have flung thousands of rounds at 600 to 1000 yards but have no interest in shooting a game animal at long range.

If I can't hold on hair I am not going to touch it off.

330 yards on a 2 by 2 whitetail, first deer with my new gun so i just let fly with a 150grain barnes x and that thing dropped like a sack of potatoes.

456 range found yards on a 170" muley.
I used my favorite rifle, a Weatherby Mark V Alaskan chambered in 300WBY shooting 180gr Ballistic tips, Harris bi-pod and topped off with a Leupold 3 1/2-10X50MM VXIII scope.
It's my "rack 'em & stack 'em at long range" shooting machine.

Discalimer-
I don't condone or encourage long range shooting by any means, but i knew my gun and what i can do with it along with perfect conditions.
Not too metion just a tad bit of luck on my side...but not on the bucks. :thumb

360 yds, my first elk when I was 13. I only took the shot because I was comfortable with my rifle. I went through many boxes of ammo practicing on prarie dogs.
