Loose powder or pellets?

I've been shooting pellets but I think that I may get a more uniform charge with loose powder becasue it won't crush when seating a bullet or chip like the pellets. What do you guys think?

bb92,
He's asking about powder for muzzleloader, not shot.

JBird,
You want to check state regs. Some western states do not allow pellets. I've only shot powder so can't really help you out there. I do tend to have consistent shot patterns time and time again. Thinking of upping my grains from 90 to 120. We'll have to see when I get back.

It doesn't matter here in Utah what you use. I'm just wondering if a loose charge of say 100grs would be more consistent than two supposedly 50grn pellets.

I use 100 grains of loose ( 28'' barrel )and Cody my son uses 90 grains with his 26'' barrel . Whats nice about loose is you can fine tune you muzzle loader with any amount , 90, 95 , 100 , 105 . Cody's guns shoots great with 90 grains but is less accurate with 95 or more.
