Lost a "friend"

After 15 awesome years my border collie Tippy finally wandered off and decided to leave this world last night. I didnt think it would be this hard to have a dog die but she was my first and i have had her since I was two. Here a pic of when we were younger.
RIP Tippy

Losing an old pal like that just plain sucks.

I read a statment once (and I can't take credit for it or remember where I read it, but I've always remembered it)-"If a man can't find something to like about a dog-any dog-there is probably something wrong with the man".

I feel your pain, I had to put my Lab down June 23rd. I picked up his ashes last Monday and haven't even been able to open the box. Can't even talk about it with anyone.

Sorry to hear about Tippy BigBuck. It's never easy losing a close friend like that. Every dog I have ever had has been a member of my family and it leaves a huge void when they are no longer with us.

Jersey - It's been over 4 years since my best friend (next to my wife of course) left us. To this day his picture, paw imprint, and cedar box with his ashes in it are prominently displayed in our home. I have never been able to look inside the box, and it's hard to even think about, let alone talk about. Dogs become more than just dogs, more than pets, they become a true member of our family and an important piece of our lives.

I thought this poem pretty fitting.

Almost as Good As Your Dog

If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can get going without pep pills,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time.
If you can overlook it when those you love take it out on you,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can ignore a friend's limited education and never correct him,
If you can resist treating a rich friend better than an poor friend,
If you can face the world without lies and deceit,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
If you can say honestly that deep in your heart you have no prejudice against creed, color, religion or politics,
THEN, my friend, you are almost as good as your dog.

man that poem realy makes you look at things a little difrent. i have 2 black labs one (hoyt)is a youngen 9 months old and the other (rocko) is 10 years old. rocko is getting to his last few years. and it almost brings tears to my eyes when i think that he will not be around some day.
good dogs are so much moore than just dogs. i truely look at rocko as one of my brothers. it will be a hard time when he passes.

RIP tippy good luck to you

Losing a dog is hard-I have a border right now she is a smart dog. I bought my first dog (my own dog) when I was ten a yellow lab from a local kennel. I had to save $150. He ended up having hip displaysia and had to be put down only 4 years later. Labs are great dogs but can be a little harder headed then a border-they also like to wolf down their food like they are starving to death and roll in anything smelly when they are hunting. Have fun if you get a new pup and remember all the good times with your old friend.

although i know labs like that [ and other breads as well]
but i can put a huge bowl of food out for my lab and it last him for days, he goes and takes a few bites here and there, but no wolfing it down, and as far as rolling in anything smelly, i think thats an owners fault not a dos, if i throe his ball, and it lands anywhere close to crap, he walk around until he can find a trail farthest away from the crap, reaches his paw out and rolls it to himself. he HATES smelly crap. IMO most dogs who have "issues" like that, isn't the dogs "issue", it's the owner. dogs are smart and can be tought anything if the effort is put into it.
my boses dad just had to have his 18 yr old border collie put down this week, they are family for shur!
