Prettiest duck there is IMO. Is that in Utah? They are usually found where the more common wood ducks live a well, but I can't say I've ever heard of someone killing Woodies in Utah?
Amazing either way. Last week a guy from here killed one and posted it on an Oregon forum-because they are so rare-anyway, another guy guessed, to an exact area where he killed it, come to find out, the guy gramma had 2 of them for pets and 1 had escaped to the local creek.

Cool picture, thanks for posting

I've killed a wild one in Utah several years ago, wished I would have mounted it now. Only one I've ever seen while duck hunting.

Agreed they are the prettiest duck alive IMO as well. Thanks for sharing.

man that too bad you didn't get it mounted- reminds of the my first wood duck. my part of the state Woody's are extremely rare. Well one morning my toes were cold so I got out of my blind and did a little walk. I looked back to my spread and here comes 6 little duck diving into my decoys. To far away but I still shot, somehow knocking one down. As my dog went to get that duck I thought for a second the others looked like wood ducks? No way, impossible- sure enough, my dog brings back A HEN wood duck! I was pretty ticked at myself for leaving the blindand missing my only chance at killing a Drake woody.--- A few years later I went over to a buddy part of the state and was able to kill a couple drake wood ducks so I could get mounted
, but it's still not the same as if I could have killed one in my own area.
