Michigan DNR raid of deer camp on island just north of Door

I'm not sure I've seen a worst case of poaching in one spot. I've never hunted the islands but I do hunt Whitetail in Door County, This is just sick.

story

St. Martins Island is the 1st island into Michigan north of Rock Island in
Door County, WI. Apparently it doesn't have a wolf pack.
From the raid on St. Martins Island on Nov. 19, 2009.
31 bucks and 9 does on the pole. Nothing smaller than a 7 point.
Another approx. 10 deer, antlers, and heads found on the ground around the
camp. A mix of smaller bucks and does.
10 deer without tags, approx. another 10 deer with wives/girlfriends tags.
Investigation continues.

What a waste, reminds me of a bust in Idaho a few years ago. Sad deal for sure, what a hit to a deer herd that is limited to the constraints of an island.----shooter

I searched the Michigan DNR site and could not find any verification on this story. I will hold my judgement of the situation until it is verified. No need to get worked up over something that may or may not be true. I hope someone can verify this story soon.

Apparently this wasn't a "poachers camp" but 11out of the 40 deer killed were not tagged. Tickets were issued for those non tagged deer and DNR still investigating.

If eleven out of fourty weren't tagged I'd say it's at least 1/4 of a poachers camp,, wouldn't you? Deer tags have been around long enough that I don't buy the old "I forgot to tag it" story. I'll go out on a limb and say that it does make a cool pic though.----shooter
