Montana Decoy

I'm curious if anyone has used one of these for elk, and if it worked?

??? Is this just a shameless business plug? Nice looking website though.

Don't believe it's a business plug, and as the Owner I don't mind his Real Estate link. I've enjoyed IDHunter's stories he is a good guy.

Never used one of the Decoys, but I would assume they would work under the right conditions or at least help in some way.

MuleyMaddness,

I appreciate the kind words and the place you've created for us to talk about what we all love.

lunkerjunker,

I apologize if my website link offended you. The truth is I couldn't accept payment from you or 99.9% of the people who post here even if I wanted to. However, I have given free advice to one individual who posts here from Utah. I helped him sell his home and buy a new one. I actually saved him several thousand dollars. My point is, I love what I do and would help you or anyone else in a second and all you have to do is ask.

As for the original question, I really am curious. My local archery shop owner has been talking to me about getting one and I'm not sure if it would be helpful or just another thing to haul around. Most of the time I hunt by myself and thought that it could work if I set up the decoy behind me and used it to pull an elk in closer. I was hoping to find someone who has some experience with one before I spend the $100.

I use one and love it. It is well worth the money if you ask me.

Bonehead,

I picked one up a few days ago and I'm going to give it a try next week. When you use one do you set it up and leave it while you're calling, or do you flash it at a bull? The majority of my hunting is done solo, so I'm trying to figure out the best method. Are there any other recommendations that you have? Thank you for the information.

We used the "butt" one on our elk hunt last year... its not terribly big, but it is a little of a pain , putting it up taking it down if you're really moving around and setting up on a lot of bulls. Might be easier if you weren't a lone... I won't say that I noticed a huge difference in success of calling anything in... but most of the time we were hunting in thick stuff so if they were close enough to see you - you could more than likely get a shot at them...
