GPWDEER
The day started like any other day that we go hunting. We got out to the hunting grounds 30min before first light. My friend and I were heading in on the road and we spotted a huge buck coming down a hill next to the road. We stopped and looked at him through the binos. I thought that (this is the one that I want) so we stopped the truck. The deer took off running all out. WE got to the top of the hill where he went over and guess what. NO BUCK!!! He had vanished like a ghost. We could see for miles across the sage brush flats. So we went back to the truck and headed on in to the property. We got to where we were going to park and unloaded the rhino. We then started off for the wheat fields that border the propery. We knew that if the big boys were trailing the does that, thats where they would be. On the way over to the fields we stopped at an old cabin to look around. When we left the cabin and down in the creek bed was a lone doe. I figured that I would fill 1 of my doe tags.(we get 2 mulie doe tags) I shot her at 149 yards.
We took her back to the truck to cool off. We left the truck again around 9:45am. We drove another 2 miles and my friend saw a 2 point and a doe together. He decided that he wanted her. We got her dressed out, all the while the 2 point stayed 50 yards or so away. We deceied to take her to the truck as well. We dropped her off and went to the fields. This is where it gets interesting....We got to the hill above the wheat fields so we could look down into the fields. We started glassing the fields, and we seen the buck out in the fields. (we don't have permission to hunt the fields). We sat there watching him for about an hour and a half. Before he went over and bedded down out in the fields. We then thought that it was a lost game, and deceided to look for a different buck. We left there at about 1330. We drove around the property getting off to look down in to the coulees. We saw about 11 bucks, but none that we wanted. At 1530 we deceied to go back over and look for the buck that was in the field. We arrived there an saw a truck driving around in the fields. (At this point I know this guy is looking for the buck that we seen). We drove to about a mile from the fence line and stopped when we saw a doe. We started glassing aroung her and there he was. He was only about 3 feet from the fence. But he was now on our side. We both got down and belly crawled out to the edge of the sage flats. I ranged the buck and got no reading. THAT MEANS HE'S OVER 800yds AWAY!!!!!! I have to get closer I said. So I deceided to ROLL off the hill down to a different spot. I get down to the 4 foot tall pine tree and range him again.....795.8yrds. I have shot antelope out to 862yrds and I was sure that I could do this. I get a steady rest on the tree..........................BANG.............BANG...............BANG........CLICK......
Thats right I missed all 3 shots. I look down at him and he is just standing there. He startes to walk towards us. I think I can't beleive is happening. I goto reload and I find that in the big hurry to get down to him, I left my ammo in the rhino.....I then belly crawled back over the hill, once I was out of sight I ran back to the rhino. I took all the ammo I had with me and started back. I belly crawled back over the hill to the Pine tree and ranged him again.....638.2 yrds ............BANG...........THWACK>>>>>>>BANG>>>>>>THWACK. Down he goes. The first shot hit him just in just 1 inch of meat of the neck. The 2nd one hit him in the vertabrey that connects the skull to the neck. I jumped up and looked for my buddy up on the hill. We were both yelling like we had just won the lottery.(In away. ....I did). We dressed him out and loaded him into the rhino, and headed for the truck. We got back to the truck and what we saw still blows my mind....There was the 2 point that was with my friends doe. He was trying to get into the back of my truck with her........He scratched up the bed of my truck trying to get in.
Well I'm sorry for the grammer errors. I never was one for english..... The day turned out to be a great day....i now have 2 trophys to get mounted......my deer and antelope that i was lucky enough to take.
