YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. Two Montana men have been sentenced to jail and probation for poaching a bull elk in Yellowstone National Park last fall.
Twenty-five-year-old Vincent Giovanni Ripoli and 21-year-old Travis Mark Johnson are both from Bozeman, Montana. Park officials say the men shot the elk near Gardiner, Montana, on November 11 and were arrested that day.
Both men pleaded guilty.
U-S Magistrate Stephen Cole sentenced Ripoli to 30 days in jail, a year of supervised probation and three years of unsupervised probation. Cole sentenced Johnson to five days in jail already served, as well as three years unsupervised probation.
Both men were ordered to pay more than eight-thousand dollars in restitution, fines and other costs. They have been banned from Yellowstone for four years.

In my opinion the penalties were pathetic also! 30 and 5 days behind bars respectively, 8 thousand dollars in fines, and unsupervised probation. Heck, my dad gave me a stiffer sentence when I rolled my eyes at my mother!
