Montana Whitetails Inc. for Mule Deer??

I posted a topic earlier about finally getting the chance to go on my first rifle hunt for Mule Deer hunt and that I was looking for an outfitter. Actually it will be my first hunt of any kind out west. Since I am from Mississippi, know nothing about any of the places to hunt out there, and will have zero chances to scout, an outfitter is going to be my best shot at a good Mule Deer. I spoke with the owner's brother from Montana Whitetails Inc. today and he seemed like a really nice fellow. I am seriously considering booking with them. He said that the owner was in Russia and would be back Monday. Just hoping that someone will see this post who has personally had dealings with them or knows someone who has. The gentleman I spoke with told me that they have a lot of mule deer and pronghorn but very few hunter's for them. He stated that most people book with them for bowhunts on whitetails and that they would love to have a few more mule deer hunters. Any feedback on them would be greatly appreciated.

I would also appreciate any suggestions for questions that I can ask the owner on Monday. This is a link to their website if anyone wants to let me know what they think.

I don't know anything about them but, I know you are usually supposed to ask for references from previous clients. Give some of them a call and ask about the services and such.

That's a great point JBird. Arch, from everything I'm hearing, they seem to be on the up and up and a pretty decent outfit. If they are indeed what they seem then they shouldn't have an issue putting you in contact with previous clients. I would chat with a couple of them and see what they think.

!00% on 150-170 class md in MT is a Broad statement,if its true use them, thats outstanding deer for my state. :222 I just looked through their MD pics, very few of them would score close to 150,if you want my honest opinion I would go with an outfitter in the North east region of the state where the MD trophy class is much better.

They have a list of references right there on their website...

Like was said earlier, You can ask for a reference sheet from any outfitting company you're looking at and all of them should have one. Don't just get all jumpy on the first outfit you come across... There are TONS of great places to go throughout the west.

Unless there's someone I know on the refrence sheet, I would not put a lot of stock in it. Why would they list as a ref. anyone that was unhappy? I'd look at the site's of several and figure if it sounded to good to be true, it probably is.

I've never used a guide but know of a guy that did, twice. One in N.W. Wyoming and he had a great trip. Everything and then some what he was promised. The other was in Utah and he said he'd never use that guide again. Seems his private land hunt was on public property and his seasoned guide was 19yrs old guiding for the first time. I'd look the guy up for you but they moved away about 5 yrs ago, don't know where they went.
