Mossberg or Remington?????

I am looking at getting into a new shotgun for turkey hunting & I am trying to decide between tactical shotguns that Mossberg & Remington make. Any thoughts or suggestions between the two?

The Mossberg 835 has an overbored barrel and will out pattern the 870 100% of the time. I have had two 870 Supermags and three Mossberg 835's and have patterned all of them with several loads. I shoot a Benelli SBEII these days due to the benevolence of my employer and my record setting sales performance in 2008. I love the Benelli but I would never spend $1500.00 of my own money on a shotgun. I honestly would take the Mossberg 835 over the Remington 870 that is produced these days. Remington is having a lot of QC problems but, I would like to possibly try the new 887 Nitro for fun.

Ill stick with my Browning Gold, and my Benelli Super Black Eagle, some day hopefully ill pick up a browning maxus :not-worthy but my buddy has the 835 and hes had alot of problems with it, and just in my opinion the remington is gonna be better, but thats just my opinion... by the way did yall hear about Remington having the drawing for the 10,000,000 870?!?!

Nothing Wrong with Mossberg’s; they have improved their firearms by leaps and bounds, to the point that the US Military carries their shotguns. It’s a personnel preference thing.
(Question: do you want to shoot a Walther or a Colt? Both of them fine firearms, which one do you prefer? Same question Tysum asked about choice of shotguns)

OFF the soap box:
Tysum: have you been out to Ben Avery Shooting center north part of Phoenix, they have shot gun rentals for the shoot gun range out there. You will be able to shoot several different brands and see what you like best

I'm just a bit curious why you are wanting to use a tactical shotgun for hunting turkeys?

I’m going to “Assume” that the tactical shotgun question came from my comment about the US Military using Mossberg shotguns.

It just might be the wave of the further: Pump action, some are able to shoot 3 ½ shells, adjustable length of pull, short barrel, interchangeable chokes, pistol grip, Picatinny rail system, Good iron sights easy target viewing.

As I thought about your question:
I could not find a problem with the idea.
Pump action- personnel choice.
3 ½ shell- good choice.
Adjustable length of pull- ability to shoot easily from different positions and adjustable for heavy or light layers of clothing.
Short barrel- less movement visible.
Chokes- Standard.
Pistol Grip- easy to raise one handed into firing position, good feel.
Picatinny rail system- ability to quick change from Iron sights to scope or other aids.
Really don’t see the draw backs, but with any weapon you must be able to shoot it and fell compatible with it.

Hope that answers your question

I shoot winged criters with my Remi wingmaster and I love it. So I must suggest the remi, but that beneli sure is a nice gun.

The Benelli is a nice gun, if your willing to mortgage the home, but i still rest my case that 870 is where its at between the two.

If i could id convert ya to a browning fan :thumb

Believe it or not but the Benelli was only $560. The Rem was $530 & the Moss was $580.

I Like my Mossberg 835 Ultimag. Guess I'm the only one, but I'm ok with that.

i have hunted for waterfowl for few years now. ihave shot rems, and bps,s, while my huntin buddies thought they had to shoot the 835,s. never had a problem with the rems or bps i sold the bps only because it didnt fit me rite. i am the short one of the bunch.the remington has had no falures or hang ups what so ever, i cant say that for the mosbergs. lots of jams, shells hangin up,shells misfiring.i bragged,i bitched,i laughed with all the reasons the others had to express, but the 870 held up and still out performs the mosy bunch hands down.

I have a Rem 870 with a 24 in slug barrel and turkey choke. Patterns great out to 40+ yds and the short length makes it easy to handle. The iron sites are nice also. I really like this set up so my vote would have to be Remington. :thumb
