Washington State has a High Buck Hunt that begins on Sept 15 in the wilderness sections of the state. I took this one in the Northern Cascades.
My cousin and I stalked him for 4 hours before we could postition ourselves for a shot. We were above the timberline then came down on top of him and 5 other bucks. He was in the middle of them, all of them bedded. We could only get within 520 yards before the local marmots let the neighborhood know we were in town. Their high pitched whistles became annoying. Cover was thin and everytime we moved to try and get closer the bedded bucks would look up our way. I tried to sidehill to a patch of trees but was unsuccesfull. The marmots whistled and the deer stood up looking my way.
Time to shoot, I sat down, postitioned the horizontal hair on top the biggest buck's horns and lined him up vertically. I touched off and punched a hole in his neck.
I'm hooked on Alpine Mule Deer hunting!
I'm checking out this buck to see if he is a hybrid Cascade deer and some have told me they think he might be.
I used a Remington 700 Ti in 260, shooting a 130 Swift bullet loaded to
2,900 fps.

Have not scored him yet, but he's a trophy to me none the less.

So are you from Arizona or Washington? Just had me curious with the username. :)

:good post
I'm originally from Prescott Arizona and can't get away from my roots!
I still put in for hunts there.
I now live in Washington and am exploring it. It has more than I thought or knew.
Thank you all for your kind comments.
Nice buck and beautiful country.........oh yeah, welcome to the Madness! :)
Just got back from the high country myself (General season). Saw a lot of deer but nothing big enough to make the pack out worthwhile. Came back home to decompress and stock up before I head back out.
Did see a few MONSTER bull elk though!
