Rifle, black powder, or archery? large buck, small buck, any buck,or doe?open country,or mountains? give us a little more info.We may be able to help alot. Do you have an Idea on what state? I think alot of first timers head to wyoming or colorado.but don't overlook some of the other states.

Western South Dakota has some really good mule deer hunting, just really hard to find really big trophy's.

Give us a little more info.do you want to guide yourself on public,do you want to guide yourself on private for a tresspass fee or are you looking at maybe a guided hunt?

IndianaBooner,
Colorado, Utah, Wyoming & New Mexico is 100% draw but they usually have some leftovers, after the draw. All four have plenty of public land.

Idaho, has over-the-counter with a cap. and plenty of public land.

Montana, usually has leftover doe tags but the buck tags are all taken in the draw.

Utah usually has a lot of archery tags left and after the second draw, which I think is in June , you can buy them over the counter. Other than that Norhtern unit tags are usually available.

Hey, I see that you are in Indiana. I live in norhtwest Illinois and I recently started the Midwest Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation and we are having our first annual MDF Banquet. It is scheduled for May 24th in Pewwaukee, WI, which is a suburb of Milwaukee. We are expecting 150-200 people and would love for you to attend. I have been able to get a guided hunt in Colorado donated and we will be auctionint it off that night. If you would like to attend or would like to join the Mule Deer Foundation, let me know and I will send you some information!

Try western Nebraska, I went with DD Trophy Deer Ranch last year for a muzzleloader hunt... I was his last client of the year, still saw over 400 deer in 4 days of hunting and missed a 150 muley, a 140 whitetail and had an opportunity at a 170 whitetail. Just do a google search for DD TROPHY DEER RACH and talk to Dan, good guy.. fun hunt, no frills and not that expensive.
