Mule Deer Outfitter Advice

My name is Archie Nichols, and I am from Florence, Mississippi. I have always dreamed of having the opportunity of coming out west to pursue a trophy mule deer (With Rifle). A couple of days ago, my wife told me that she wanted to give me this opportunity for my 40th birthday next year. Now the hard part of finding the right outfitter begins. I know that having a guide is the way that I want to go. This could very well be a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I want to be sure I make the right decision. One thing that the hunt has to be is absolutely 100% fair chase. Anything else is not hunting to me. The thing that worries me the most is winding up with the wrong outfitter and not having the opportunity at a good buck. I am not expecting to break a world record, but I would like the opportunity to harvest a trophy animal. I am looking for a place with good guides who will do anything in their power to make a hunt successful and enjoyable, good food, nice accomidations, and a guaranteed draw on a license. I would prefer that it not be an outfit with a bunch of drinking and hell raising since my wife may also accompany me on the hunt. I would welcome and advice or recomendations that anyone has on reputable outfitters.

Thanks,

Archie

What kind of deer are looking for becuase there are a couple outfitters that harvest 180+ with no problem every year. They have exclusiive leases of over 150,000 acres or more on the famed Eastern plains the down side is one it takes points WHICH THEY CAN GET YOU A LANDOWNER VOUCHER FOR A CHARGE. The other is they are $5000-$6500 for a hunt sometimes including the tag the odds of killing a 190+ buck are very REAL definatly a hunt of a lifetime for sure.

Let me know if you want more info I have a firend who is booked with one of the oufitters.

I guess I should have stated that I am trying to find a guided hunt in the $3000-$4000 range including license. I have seen several outfitters in Montana that offer Mule deer hunts in this range but know absolutely nothing about any of them. I am just hoping to find someone on here that has first hand knowledge of some of the outfitters because I have heard horror stories about winding up with the wrong one who promises the world and then delivers nothing but bad memories.

Archdog68, Welcome to MuleyMadness! I've never utilized a guide service before but there are folks here that should be able to help out. I just wanted to welcome you to the site and point out that your wife must be one fine woman to give ya this opportunity. Ya gotta hold on to a woman like that!

Good luck on the upcoming hunt!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all of the replies and private messages. I have been looking at Montana Whitetails, Inc. Does anyone know anything about them? From looking at their website, they seem to have a lot of Mule deer but not many Mule deer hunters.

Thanks again,

Archie

WELCOME ALSO! Although I've never hunted with Montana Whitetails I have spoken with the owner and he seems very honest and respectful. I know he would love to have you come hunt and I think you'd have a really good experience doing so. Give him a call or email him with more specifics about the Mule Deer. And tell him who sent ya.

They have 100% success on 150"-170" bucks

Here is a link to more info with reviews from HUNTERS about their business. Lots of game!

Aschdog68 Welcome, Sounds like you've got a great adventure coming up.
I've been hunting Montana Muleys for many years. I've not hunted with Montana White Tails Inc. Couple things, they can guarantee you a license if you book through them. and they're in a game rich area, beautiful valley and mountain scenery. Any when you hear private land with controlled hunting, means the bucks have a chance to grow up. Good Luck!

I've never hunted with a guide and/or private property, but my hunting partners have. Here's an outfitter/guide that has a VERY high success rate for quality mule deer, easy to draw tags, and top notch guides. I know many people who have hunted with them and all have enjoyed their trip, seeing lots of deer. Good luck and hang on to that lady, as that's a thoughtful and generous gift. http://www.sevenjoutfitters.com
