My antelope rifle is coming along
Snake River Marksman

For some reason I just can't explain, I felt the need to convert my Stevens 200 in 223 to 250 Savage so I could take it antelope hunting. There was nothing wrong with my Ruger 250, I just decided I wanted to use the Stevens.
Today was the first time that I fired the rifle in the new caliber. I'll be needing to do some load development to see exactly what I can get out of this rifle and barrel combo, but it is at least capable of 300yd antelope accuracy with my favorite bullet.

Most of these shots were fired by boyscouts who happened to be at the range when I was finishing up. The three in the center were mine. (of course they were!)

This rifle has a 3.8x12 Simmons Aetec with lighted reticle. It was first put on this rifle as a nightime fox calling and groundhog rig, when I lived in Maryland. I'll probably leave this one on. But if I change this rifle out again, and go with the 308, I'll switch to another scope in the 2x7 class. Basically, a timber elk and deer rifle sort of theme. Except, my 6.5x55 already fills that niche.....
100gr ballistic tip would be excellent medicine!
I was able to tweak the load a little. I changed over to Imr 4064, and tweaked the seating depth and shrank the groups about 1/2 inch. I also found a great combo with an 80gr varmint bullet that prints to the same point of impact that is going to be death on coyotes. It's shooting in the 1/2 inch range.
