My First Elk

I just turned 12, the minimum age in Colorado for Big Game, in October. I was successful and killed my first elk. We tracked it down in the snow, spotted it before it spotted us and I shot it in its bed. Rangefinder said 209 yards. We had to watch her for almost an hour to finally decide the spike looking antlers above her head were sticks and not antlers. Great time together! While My dad was taking a photo of me another elk ran right by us and my dad was able to get her. The grace of God no doubt. Our other two hunting partners killed their elk too, so we went 4 for 4.

My first elk was a cow also and it sure was fun getting her. It just wasn't much fun getting her back to the truck.
God bless.

i just cant wait to be doing that with my kids!
great job on getting your kids into hunting. i've hunted my fair share, and as i get older, the trips that i remember and think about the most are the ones i spent when my dad would take me when i was still young enough to mess up his hunting.
just a great post!
great job TRACKER!!
I sure am a proud and thankful dad. I love hunting with my children and like you looked forward to the day they could carry their own weapon. Camp is the best, the laughter, card playing, jokes and story telling. What a blast! The joy of watching them get their animals is priceless. 10sign: 10sign: 10sign:
