My first finds, Are they worth $130?

First off let me say that the shed finds that wild antler, team wam, and the rest of you post here are awesome. They've made me jealous for a while now. I've been looking hard but definitely haven't found the right real estate based on size and numbers. That said here is an ATL of my first ever find when actually looking for antlers.

Here is the next find from our next hike.

Didn't have my camera for ATL pics but here's a couple of old elk sheds

Finally here's all my deer bone to date. I used the cracked old two point to make a frame base for a photo of this years deer. I also found the spike antler with the chewed end. Maybe there should be a smallest shed find contest. It's the only way I'd have a chance to win. lol

The reason I asked if they are worth $130 is because my Garmin Etrex Legend is up on the hill tonight. :>/ We put some miles in. I have no idea where it fell out. Sure wish there was a way to link to a satalite and get the coordinates becuase its still on.

We'll I'm going to keep trying until I find some good ones. It sure is fun to at least come home with something. :)

DANG!

To start, CONGRATS on the finds. And, doing it with the little man in tow is really cool! Might not be worth the loss of the Garmin though!

Did you make an attempt to check the last part of your hike in case it fell out late in the hike?

Taking the little guy out in the hills is priceless, so I would say they are worth $130. Thats too bad you lost your GPS though. Nice finds and good luck on getting your GPS back. :thumb

I believe they are not worth $130.00 at all. They are pricless. I just got back from another shed trip and even though I did good, I took my step son and he only found one on a rock that someone put there that was over ten years old, but he was as happy as he could be. So is it worth my $500.00 dollars? YOU bet it was any time in the hills is a great time especially when a youngster can pick up even old bone and be happy.

Looks like a great time, keep it up. :thumb

Thanks every one. I agree that the moment we found that first four point was priceless. My son had been on several "fruitless" shed hikes the year before. So the high fives were really fun.

Finding your first shed is kind of like discovering that unicorns are real. When you pick it up you realize that they actually exist. :))

Well hawk I had realized that the GPS was missing when I was about 3-4 miles up the mountain. I tried to look for it on the way back down but to no avail. I went back out last week for one last look. I spent eight hours on the mountain. No sheds found, but I did get one sweet ATL photo. Here it is

Wahoo. After hiking to the top of the mountian and coming back down, eight hours later within a hundred yards of my truck was my GPS. Dead batteries of course but still working with a new set installed. Wiith that kind of luck you'd think I'd be finding monster sheds.

So while I was up on the mountain I saw some deer move out about two hundred yards above me. I watched them from a distance so as not to cause them undue alarm. After they left I went up to their beds. This is a pic of one of the beds

When I saw the blood near one end of the bed I assume it to be head blood from a fresh shed. I followed the blod drips back through the snow until they disappeared. No sheds. I wonder what the wound was from.

On my way back down the mountain, I spotted a really nice tall three point still packin. Down by the truck I saw a 3x4 still wearin his antlers. Kid of hard to find a fresh shed when they are still attached. I guess I be going out again before too long.

I think being out in the country you are in is worth the 130 bucks, the luck of finding the GPS is pretty cool too. My wife and I went out for a walk today to look for sheds. She found a small three point and large four point, I found nothing. Both of our finds were from white tail deer as I am not in an area were there are mulies.

COOL! I failed to see that you had posted the "find".

Good to hear that not only did you get to go shed hunting with the little one, you also were able to recover your gear.

Sounds pretty darned successful all the way around now!
