My So. Utah "meat" buck

I wasn't planning on posting him, but people keep bugging me and said they'd like to see the pictures. So here he is...

My cousins boy (15 yr. old) almost had this buck and I was really hoping he would. But it didn't quite work out and they ran him right to me.

I watched him through my scope for a few seconds and told my dad I don't want to shoot him, then I asked well crud...should I shoot him?

his reply... "if it was me I would" ...so a few seconds later...blam...1 shot 1 kill from just over 100 yards.

I was initially disappointed at shooting him, because I wanted to keep hunting and was looking for something a little bigger.

But it had been 4 years since I'd taken a buck and wanted the meat. After I had my first Tenderloin steaks 2 nights ago...

lets just say I was happy I took him and thoroughly ENJOYED the meat and grateful for the harvest.

So here he is, not big but sure does taste good.

:)

Way to go Brett......hey, you're not old enough to use one of those deer carts. Don't you know you have to pack those things out on your back until your at leadt in your mid-40's. :))

Yea, but I'm little...does that count. ??? :)

Any guess as to my actual age, since I look so young. This is actually one of the VERY few times I've ever used a deer cart. Not sure it was worth it or that it actually helped much.

Did keep the hide looking nice though.

These pics are all on the site, just have to dig for them a bit.

That should be enough pics of my "mug" for quite a while. :)

I wouldn't hesitate to pull the tigger on him, if I still had a tag on the rifle hunt.

Hey Brett, good thing you ended up with a "meat buck" cause it really likes like you need to do some more eating! What the heck man do you run marathons for a living? :) Wish I had your problem!

I never really thought those carts would be worthwhile for the country we tend to hunt. About nine years back one of my cousins brought his kids up hunting with a plastic toboggan. I jokingly told him to leave the toboggan in case we got an elk down. Low and behold, we did, two at the same time with about 6" of snow on the ground and an uphill drag of about a mile or more. Figured the calf would be easy and didn't use the toboggan. Took four of us almost two hours to get it out. Had a cow in the sled with only three of us, already worn out, about an hour. A couple of years later I saw in Cabela's something called the Deer Sleigh'r, one deer sized and the magnum size. I ordered the magnum and that year my brother dropped a spike bull about a mile from the road. Only me and him to pull it out and no snow. Put the spike in the sled and it pulled to easy it was unbelievable! Actually had to put on on the back on the down slopes to keep from being run over. Have used them ever since, including three elk this year. I'll never go hunting elk without one again.

I very rarely hunt in snow, doesn't snow where I live an rarely where I hunt.

But that does sound like a great idea.
