For those of you that don't know, I have five kids at home that all really enjoy the outdoors. Well, over the last few weeks my oldest son and I have been gettin' ready for the Washington and Idaho hunting seasons and our upcoming hunts in both states.
My three year old, Skylor, has really taken notice and was convinced that he was going hunting also. It really broke his heart when I had to explain to him that he wasn't quite old enough to hit the field with me. After racking my brain trying to find some way to make him a bit happier and keep him interested I came up with a plan. I dressed him up in his "huntin' clothes" and brought him out back where Steven, my oldest son, and I had set up some targets. I gave him my middle son's airsoft rifle (For those of you that are unaware what an airsoft is, it's an air gun that shoots small plastic pellets) and helped him "sneak" up on the targets and take his shots.
After we made it through the course I took a jackalope mount off my game-room wall that I received as a gift a while back and told him that he "shot so well that he got his buck". I then set him up and took some field photos. He was so proud and has been tellin' everyone now that he got his buck this year....LOVED IT.
Here's one of the pics.
