Need a little help.

Hey all. If the license Gods smile on me, I may get to recognize a life long dream. Being 44 that is no small feat. I hope to embark on my first "western" hunt in 2007. The question I have is this. The hunt may very well be a pack in hunt, so in the interest in traveling light, I would like to have one "good" outfit of outer wear. With the idea of layering under it as conditions dictate. Do you all favor wool, or the new synthetics, for outer wear? We will be applying for Big Piney Wy as our first choice. Contingancy plan is N.W. Colorado. Early Nov is the timeline. Any Sugestions?

I backpack in and have had great luck with the following for my layering while keeping my pack ultralight.

The Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket, is a down, ultra packable lightweight coat. Underneath all I need is a non-cotton Tshirt, then a med. weight long underwear top. Works great, the coat packs up the size of two fists so its easy to stash in your pack. I carry a lightweight rain shell as well.

I carry in and keep at camp a pair of Mountain Hardwears Chugach Pants. These things are amazing. They are lightweight and low profile yet they feel like you are wearing a sleeping bag, in that they are so warm. It has only been cold enough for me to wear them while hunting a couple of times in that they are a bit warm for heavy hiking. But they are awesome in camp. I tend of cover a lot of ground while hunting so I like to wear just light longunderwear and a pair of old slacks. I carry a superlight pair of rain pants for snow and rain.
For me I feel this to be the perfect lightweight/warm setup.
Thats basically it as far as cloths, I will have an extra T shirt and change of light longunderwear and a few pairs of heavy socks that I leave in camp.
Good luck to you.

Hey thanks Treeline. Sounds like what I had in mind. If you have a link to the source of Mountain Hardwear I would sure appreciate it. Sounds like the real deal. I will have enough to worry about being a flatlander on foot in that country. I don't want to have clothing issues. I'm looking for simplistic, warm and dry. Sounds like you have a good system in that respect. Thanks for the help.

Above are the sites for the gear that I was talking about. Just remember that when using down you have to keep it dry so a good rain shell is a must. I hope this helps.
