Hi all!
I drew a 101E tag, I applied because the success rate was high last year and didnt actually think I would draw. Surprise. This issue I have is that I cant make any trips up that way between now and then due to the fact that I have to use leave days to go there for distance requirements and I only have 12 days of leave to use. So obviously I want to save as many days for the hunt itself, but that leaves me with this. I will have one day to drive and a day to hike in, that will leave me with 8 days to hunt and a day to hike out and drive back so I am not AWOL. I dont know any access points or place to park my car, yes I have a car, not a truck...lol I will basically have the 8-9 days to find deer and hunt them. I have not been able to find any trailheads except fot the ones that are heavily used throughout the year by the public, I want to avoid that.
I can obtain maps and have alot of experience bivy huntinig, just not there because I have never seen it or been there. I guess the main issue is a convenient place to park (where my car wont get jacked lol) and access some where in the central to southern portion of the unit so I can Hike in. Hiking in isnt an issue... I have been calling the forestry offices and leaving messages...lol with none returned.
Is it a better Idea to just park somewhere and hike in off trail? I dont know about the private lands though, I would hate to spend the first few days trying to find access...lol Any Ideas? Any input would be helpfull. If anyone wants some advise about hunting in Oregon or New Mexico, I may be able to help.
Thanks all... look forward to seeing the many success stories for this season! =D>
