Spent 5 days in the rubys came to full draw twice. Once opening morning. And once a couple days later opening morning was a forky and i couldnt bring myself to release on a forky 10 miles deep in the backcountry. Second was a nice 160 or better buck largest in the group of nine I spent hours closing the distance only to have him jump my string when i released I think I shaved a bald spot on his back with my montec. He still haunts me everytime I. close my eyes. Season lasts until sept 8 so im going to try again for a couple days come the holiday.

Just got back from a 5 day trip to the Ruby's. struck out. saw about a half dozen does, but nothing to shoot at. must have lost 10lbs hiking. getting kinda discouraged. can find tracks and scat, but no bucks. hopefully i can get another tag next year. i hate that you have to wait 365 days to go back out!

lol, as much as i could get into. I tried up high around smith lake, and i tried down low in the valley. got some intel that there were a few bucks seen near one of the cattle ranches havin' a bit of salt lick, so we tried that, but to no avail. even went on the back side kinda near horse creek, still no luck. obviously i'm doing something wrong, just cant figure out what. is there a book or a link or something somewhere that says, "hot days, deer are more likely to be here, overcast days they do this, full moons they do this..."

I was up at horse creek for the opener and seen fewer deer then prior years, but was still able to locate a few good bucks. After opening day didnt see to much with the full moon and hot weather. Heading back up for closing weekend and looks like some cooler weather is moving in. Hopefully will see more then opening weekend and get an oppurtunity.

Think wilderness....6-12 miles in and you'll see bucks. If back-packing that far is not your thing, maybe hiring a packer to drop you off back in there and hike out is the ticket.
