Nevada Guys...I Need Help!!!

I just found out that I drew a Nevada early rifle deer tag. The unit was my 5th choice (???) I am really excited, and want to make the most out of this hunt. It is unit 161-164. I don't have a clue about these units. I like to backpack, but also hunt from a truck camp depending on the situation. I do quite a bit of scouting near my home in Utah and could give some good info in return. I know that isn't worth much since I hunt the utah general seasons, but I have lucked out and taken a couple of good bucks recently. If you are a resident or non-resident, and know about these units, I would like to hear what you think.

Any help would be great. I am not asking for specific spots, just general unit info so I can get started in the research process. If anyone wants to PM me, that would be great too.

Thank you
Jason.

OB - I have never hunted that area, try the NDOW website they give good starting locations for that area and the experienced hunter I'm sure you are can branch out from there. I can ask around. I'll post something if I find out anything.

OB, I talked to a friend of mine who works for NDOW. He knows a guy who hunts the North end of the Monitor Range around the Table Mountain Wilderness. States there are some excellent Bucks in there but not very good access. Hope this helps.

The following link is to the hunter information sheet for these units provided by NDOW:

http://www.ndow.org/hunt/resources/infosheets/deer/south/md_161_162_163_164.pdf

That should give you a good start. I've never hunted these units but have hunted 171-173 which should be fairly similar. You will need to get up high to find the bucks (9500-10500 feet). There should be a mixture of mountain mahogany, some juniper, and sagebrush. You should have an awesome hunt and see lots of deer. Good luck.

I grew up hunting that area. If you want to email me, I can give you some hints on where to look. The Table Mountain area is good, but I there are other areas as well.

Anyway, my email is: drjeffcbp@hotmail.com

Send me an email, and we'll talk.
